This summer I want to use my laptop on my balcony (fresh air and nature, ya know) to do the same but since it's way slower than my PC, I want to do that remotely, so I wouldn't compromise on compile time and stuff. if your high powered pc is linux then install vnc server and get a vnc client for your laptop. It's all over a single LAN, so I don't care about security.
if your high powered pc is windows then enable rdp and get an rdp client for your laptop.
This gives you the classics as a baseline for comparison.
